Smaran Ravichandran Joins Sunrisers Hyderabad
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 14: Sunrisers Hyderabad has officially announced the signing of uncapped player Smaran Ravichandran to replace the injured spinner Adam Zampa.
The IPL confirmed this development through a media advisory, stating that the 21-year-old left-handed batsman from Karnataka was acquired at his base price of Rs 30 lakh.
According to the IPL's announcement, "Smaran Ravichandran has participated in 7 First-Class matches, 10 List A games, and 6 T20s, accumulating over 1100 runs across these formats. The left-handed batsman, who represents Karnataka in domestic cricket, joins SRH for INR 30 Lakh."
Ravichandran has established himself as a versatile player for Karnataka. In the current Ranji Trophy season, he has scored 516 runs in seven first-class matches, boasting an impressive average of 64.50, including two centuries and a top score of 203.
In List A cricket, he has amassed 433 runs from 10 matches at an average of 72.16, featuring two centuries and two fifties. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final, scoring a match-winning century against Vidarbha.
In T20s, he has tallied 170 runs at an average of 34.00, with a strike rate of 170.00 and one half-century. Additionally, he has competed for the Gulbarga Mystics and the Shivamogga Strikers in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
On another note, Chennai Super Kings have replaced their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad with Mumbai's Ayush Mahtre. The 17-year-old has played nine first-class matches and seven List A games, scoring a total of 962 runs for Mumbai. In his nine first-class outings, he has made 504 runs in 16 innings at an average of 31.50, including two centuries and a fifty, with a highest score of 176.
In List A cricket, Mahtre has scored 458 runs from seven matches at an average of 65.42, featuring two centuries and a fifty, with a best score of 181. During the ACC U19 Asia Cup, he scored 176 runs in five matches at an average of 44.00, including two half-centuries.
In his first complete Ranji Trophy season for Mumbai, he accumulated 471 runs in eight matches and 14 innings, averaging 33.64, with two centuries and a fifty. Gaikwad, unfortunately, has been ruled out of the current IPL season due to an elbow injury, leading to MS Dhoni's return as captain. Prior to his injury, Gaikwad had scored 122 runs in five innings at an average of 24.40, including two half-centuries.
